Profile Information

About Me:
Ed Lantz is a media and entertainment engineer, entrepreneur and pioneer of fulldome and large-format digital cinema systems who believes in the transformative power of immersive and interactive media. Ed’s technical background is in quantum physics, electromagnetics, hardware and software engineering. He spent seven years leading photonic signal processing R&D at Harris Corp. in Melbourne, Florida, five years at the Astronaut Memorial Planetarium and Observatory in Cocoa, Florida developing advanced laser, video and astronomical projectors, and eight years with Spitz, Inc. where his team transformed old-style planetariums into immersive visualization environments. His entrepreneurial ventures include founding of Harmony Channel, a cable television network described as “MTV for the Soul,” and more recently Vortex Immersion Media, a new venture bringing immersive and interactive experiences to themed entertainment and special events markets, and Spherical Media Group, a fulldome production and distribution company focused on transformative media for digital planetariums. Ed has published and presented numerous papers on VR and entertainment technologies, and is a regular contributor to ACM SIGGRAPH papers, panels and courses. He co-founded the Fulldome Summit and IMERSA, a trade association for immersive art and science. Ed holds an MS in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Tech University, two US Patents on immersive video-based theater technology, is a percussionist and an ordained interfaith minister.
Conscious Creativity means...
I think of Conscious Creativity as awakened creativity. All that we create is an expression of our deeper layers of consciousness. Awakened creativity is aware of the tendency of our inner state of affairs - our quality of consciousness, if you will - to communicate or transmit to others through our creations, our expressions, our art. When we create from a place of harmony, our art tends to resonate with harmony in others. When we create from a place of chaos, we tend to invoke chaos in others. In this sense, art is the science of invoking neural/emotional states in others. Conscious Creativity is aware of this transmission and is therefore mindful of the creator's state of consciousness in the act of creation. It also acknowledges creative expression as a window into our deeper layers of being.
My vision of the future:
I seek to build a collaborative network of content creators focused on building a better world who, together, represent a formidable force in the media and entertainment industry. I also seek to work with others to pioneer alternative programming for all media platforms, from IMAX and large digital domes to television and mobile media. "Conscious creatives" are an independent lot, but we can accomplish so much more if we work collaboratively.
I am really good at:
Multidisciplinary efforts that integrate business, content creation, advanced media technologies and live events.
I could use help with:
Seeking strategic alliances, contractors, collaborators and investors for a variety of projects in process.
Tools I use...
Use of immersive cinema, digital domes, large-format film, gesture-interactive media, spatial augmented reality, virtual environments, visual music, cable television and 3D stereo production to deliver transformative experiences.
I am looking for (services):
I'm always seeking support from interns, volunteers, and professionals who wish to partner on seed projects.
I am offering (services):
Executive production for immersive cinema programming, management of artists touring digital domes, events design, entertainment venue design, master planning and design of entertainment attractions. See www.vorteximmersion.com, www.spherical-media.com, www.imersa.org and www.harmonychannel.com.

Hi Ed,

Sorry for the tardy response. You and Kate, now there's a dynamic duo!

I hope to "attend" the event tonight from my five-year-old home computer. I hope it's a great success -- looking forward to hearing how it all went.
